I'm not sure how to begin here. My grandfather passed away on Monday night, July 30th. He had been sick with mesothelioma for some time, and since Saturday had been having much greater difficulty breathing and was very weak. He passed away peacefully in his sleep, which I am very grateful for. I'm also grateful that I got to see him and my Grandmother over the last break from school, while he was still relatively healthy.
While I didn't have an extremely close relationship with him, I knew that if I ever needed anything he'd be there to help me out. My fondest memories of him are when me, my sister, and cousins were kids, and they would take us out in their motor home to different camp sites around the northeast. All of them would involve Native American lore, and of course my favorite thing at the time, horseback riding. We always saw them every Christmas; even though half of that side of our family is Jewish the holiday was more about being with family than anything else.
The funeral is being held on Saturday afternoon. Unfortunately, though I have been able to take a leave of absence from school, we will more than likely not be able to feasibly make it up to CT as I had originally hoped. Flights at the right times are proving to be very difficult to find.
So I say my goodbye tonight. Goodbye grandpa, I love you dearly and hope you are able to find peace.
