I had mixed feelings on the final episode..and understand I was a fan of the original as 'bubblegum' as it was..
I do like how the forshadowing in the 'opera house' scenes finally linked up.
Baltar finally got a pair...
Earth was found ( I guess the first 'Earth' was actually 'Terra'..)
..and yes all of the metaphysical thing..particularly the end with the Baltar and Six 'angels' discussing things....I kind of got a 'God and the Devil' vibe off of that..
and yes...the Galactica is gone. The old Battlestar is no more.
And that was sweet.
Why..? Well...
up until the very last 3 episodes..it looked as if she was going to end in rot as a striped carcass, and then the rescue...her last action.
The old battlestar had one last fight in her..one LITERALLY for the ages...and if she was going out..she'd go out fighting..like her younger sister Pegasus did. I loved the scene where she pulled out of formation with the fleet and Adm. Adama called for the check...and gave his last pre-battle speech....and orders all hands to action stations.
..and it was as Adm. Adama said was it not...they didn't fail her...and she didn't fail them.....her back didn't break until they were away and safe. Why not talk about the characters like William, Lee, Kara, Saul etc? Well.... everybody is talking about that...but Galactica was a character too...a veteran of the first Cylon War...a scarred old warrior maiden who was there a the beginning through to the end. Turned out to pasture..she rose again to the call when it was time, and hung in to the last.
..burned on a fitting pyre for a warrior starship...into the sun.
