So Rachel and I are writing papers and listening to Great Big Sea. This song "River Driver" from their new album, The Hard and the Easy, comes on... it's this great old Newfie song about a logger who has to be away from his sweetheart for six months out of the year ("For I'm a river driver and I'm far away from home"). Now, Rachel is a little obsessed with this song --- she thinks it should be "River Pirate" instead of "River Driver." I try to explain to her why that can't be --- it's working class tragedy, right?
"He can be an angsty, emo pirate!" she says. "That's ok too!"
