Mildred Pierce Parts I & II (HBO)
All I can say about this series...DAYUM. Just...wow.
I'm not going to say much about the plot, but the whole time setting and drama is great! I especially loved the part where Mildred started punishing the young, ungrateful Veda because Mildred confessed she did something degrading such as being a waitress (because yes, it's a sin to be a working woman in the 1930s) and Veda was like, "OH EM GEE MOTHER, HOW COULD YOU MAKE OUR FAMILY LOOK SO BAD!" and MIldred was like, "STFU GURL, I'M GOING TO OPEN A RESTAURANT I GOTS TO SEE HOW THE INDUSTRY WORKS." Then the slapping and bum spanking commenced...minus the ghetto speech.
My parents decided to hop in on the program where Kate Winslet (yeah, she's Mildred in here for those who don't know) was getting it on with some handsome, greasy man on her beach escape. It was pretty detailed, and my parents were like, "Emily! Don't look! Close your eyes!" but I retaliated and said, "It's just sex. Besides, I'm allowed to watch this, and who hasn't seen Kate Winselt's boobs." And i continued to watch the awkward event unfold in front of my eyes. And moving on...
Veda is like...one of those daughters that are smarter...more conniving than the parents. I kind of feel bad for Mildred because she has to deal with that bitch of a daughter. However, I can't hate Veda, because she's a smart bitch and her sarcasm just makes me lol.
So I think I'm going to love the next 3 parts. Apparently, Veda grows up to be a beauty, so I was like, "Haha! I think I'm going to like her more now!" Also, seeing mother and daughter in a slap fest was a great treat!
