knowingly, she looks over
comforted to see him there.
she glances at the clock,
in an hour he'll leave again.
and she'll be left all alone
to pick up the pieces of her mangled heart.
so many times she has watched
this good-bye scene unfold.
when will she learn that
love only brings her pain?
poem #2:
she sits by the bed
listening to the sound of him sleeping
the silence is haunting her
more than anything he said could
she wonders what hes dreaming about
"is it me?," she questions aloud
slowly he stirs awake and
misunderstanding, invites her
back into bed with him
"don't you get it?," she asks.
he can't read her mind
although she expects him to.
he turns back over
and pulls the covers tight.
"you see," she thinks, "that's my biggest fear,
that you'll just give up."
poem #3:
she stares out the window
watching the symphony of colors
blend together into morning
she promises herself that
today's the day she's going to leave
today she really will change
she watches the sun rise
and spotlight the local park
where there is a boy and girl
playing hopskotch in the pavement
she tries to remember a time
when life was that innocent
she looks back into the empty house
void of all emotion and feeling
except depression and hoplessness
she wonders when things changed
wasn't it just yesterday that
she sat on those same swings
she begins her day though
there's no time today
maybe tomorrow will be the day
one last time she glances out
watching the symphony of colors
blend together into morning.
