some random queries and observations

 driving
why does my straight male driving instructor have longer and better cared for finger nails than me?

travel
why, if home land security upgraded the terror-threat level to orange, was i able to fly into and out of the us with my mini swiss army knife key fob in my purse?

art
art that i recently saw in chicago that moved me:

the art institute of chicago
* portrait of emily crane chadbourne - tsuguhara foujita
* circus horse - joan miro
* two personages in love with a woman - joan miro
* caroline - alberto giacometti
* tattoo and haircut - reginald marsh
* nightlife - archibald j. motley jr.
* woman descending the staircase - gerhard richter

museum of contemporary art
* alarm clocks (réveis) 1960 - pierre fernandez arman
* may and gaby's alphabet 2000 - tony fitzpatrick
* geography = war 1991 - alfredo jaar
* time exposed 1991 - hiroshi sugimoto
numbers 2 - 4 were part of the lessons in learning exhibit.

renovations
our renovations are perking right along: by the end of this weekend, the entire main floor should be completely re-painted. items that have been done in the recent past:
* old hardwood and other flooring on the main level ripped out and decrepit sub-floors covered with plywood.
* old plaster and lathe walls recovered with drywall.
* decaying contents of "bogeyman room" - a storage room with earthen walls and floor - disposed of.
* knob and tube wiring that was undetected until there was a power loss to a third of the house on the weekend has been replaced. (i'd love to run into the home inspector we used when we bought the place - preferably with a tank).

it was so nice to come home last night to a house devoid of contractors (no matter how much i like them personally).

is it possible that drywall mud dust-caked clothes could be the next fashion trend?

can cats cough up drywall mud dust the same way humans can?
