On Wednesday, ahimsa114 is taking me to a WNBA game. I'm really excited about it for a number of reasons - because Ahimsa just happened to have an extra ticket the day before my birthday, because the audience will probably have plenty of hot lesbians, because this whole rugby thing has really tuned me into the enjoyment of watching and supporting women's sports.
I am definitely NOT going because of the carefully groomed appearance of the WNBA players themselves. So I am quite disgusted to learn that "about a third of this year’s two-day WNBA rookie orientation was devoted to makeup, hairstyle and fashion tips."
Because apparently, according to league President Donna Orender, "This is all about a broader-based education."
Broader-based education, my ass. It's about rampant homophobia in women's sports and a general societal refusal to view women without objectification (as both of the linked articles point out).
Ugh.
