To-do lists

I am feeling very accomplished with myself the past two days. I've officially moved out of the Bungalow and into the Brookland house - though my car* is still full of boxes, they are mostly things that have been in the Bungalow basement for two years that I really need to sort through.**

After loading up the car yesterday, I left it parked on the street and metro'd to Dupont to get a hair cut. It looks a lot like my old hair, except you can kind of tell that it was done on purpose rather than just grown out for six or seven months by the way that it actually looks good. I then briefly went to the gym, where my new hair cut further demonstrated its usefulness by not pouffing up like a seeding dandelion even though I forgot a hair tie.

Then later, after work, I went to the grocery store and got some food so I'd actually have something to eat at the new house. Tryouts are this weekend, and the whole moving-process habit I'd been getting into of not eating breakfast and not really eating dinner was not particularly supportive of me being in the best shape possible!

However, now I have beans and pasta and oatmeal and bread and yogurt and cheese and raisins and tortillas and peanut butter - just the basics to hold me over until I have time to REALLY get some food.

This morning, I took advantage of having energy from both dinner and breakfast to go run through our neighborhood. It was a pretty fantastic run, in nice, sunny weather that wasn't too hot, and I got to check out our neighborhood. Parts of Northeast are a little sketchy, but this area seems downright friendly - in the 30-45 minutes I was out, at least three or four people waved and said hi. There's also at least two parks nearby, with fields, woods, tennis courts, and even some uprights!! I'm hoping to drag one of my housemates out sometime this week to practice kicking (even if I'm a forward, I can still know how to kick for points, right?)

After a shower and lunch, I decided it was time for some more exploration, this time of the public transit system. I'd checked out the bus timetables while running, but I am very bad with buses - on the metro, it's always very clear which stop you're at, but on buses, I have a habit of ending up several blocks past where I'd planned to go because I don't recognize where I'm going.

Luckily, I managed to successfully ride the busy all the way from the house (there's a busstop basically across the street) to Farragut North metro stop. From there I went to campus, stopping at Cleveland Park to pick up the bowl I painted at All Fired Up for Carmen's going away party - it's definitely my new favorite bowl ever! I painted it with goldfish (get it? fish bowl?) and the colors turned out beautifully. I wish my camera wasn't broken, or I'd post pictures.

When I got to campus, I ran a few more errands - depositing graduation money into my bank account (HUGE thanks to my relatives, who are ensuring that I will be able to pay rent and eat even if I don't start temping right away), getting my cords and certificate for Phi Beta Kappa, and picking up my final paper from Feminist Theory - Peach not only gave me an A+ but wrote a comment suggesting that I look into getting it published. Um, WOW - I guess spending my spring break in Ireland reading Judith Butler paid off!

Now I am at the library, working - aka getting paid to sit here and play on the internets on the off chance that someone needs help (in the past three days, I have worked 15 hours and assisted about ten patrons - half of which weren't actually for the reserves desk). After enjoying another Great Adventure in Public Transportation (estimated time I will spend traveling home: 90 minutes) and going to bed, I'll wake up tomorrow to tackle some of the next items on my to-do list - including a tattoo consultation!!!!

So far, life as a "real person" isn't too bad.

*I don't think I ever mentioned - for graduation, my parents gave me their old car! It's a 2002 Hyundai Elantra. I'm working on coming up with a name for it, but I haven't decided on anything yet.

**Speaking of - anyone on my flist want some manga? I have a ton of old stuff that I haven't touched in years and I'd be happy to give it away for a few bucks/shipping if anyone's interested - I have Mars, Gravitation, Rayearth, something called Eerie Queerie, and probably more that I don't remember.

house, life
