Finals: a pro/con debate

Apr 30, 2008 21:12

On the one hand, I am so close! Less than a week until I will be done with undergraduate work FOREVER.

On the other hand, I have about ten more pages of feminist theory, a group project, and a take-home final for a class that I never paid any attention to between me and sweet sweet freedom.

But thinking positively, I'm not only completely done with my capstone, but my adviser was really impressed with it. She gave me an A AND told me I should try to get it published somewhere AND plans on talking about my work in one of her classes!!! And she also promised that if I EVER needed a letter of recommendation for anything, she'd be happy to supply me. :D

On the downside, I'm probably not getting much sleep tonight. And when I wake up, it's for a gynecologist appointment with a man I've never met before. Ugh.

But on the bright side, I just wrote this sentence: However, Gilligan's work has drawn critiques that argue that her presentation of a masculine/feminine binary essentializes a difference shaped by culture, reinforcing the dominant patriarchal ideology of gender as a universally salient principle that holds across the vast majority of individuals and that justifies any number of differential treatments and judgments based on gender.

Dear feminist theory: things may be a little rocky right now, what with me having to churn out another ten or so pages of you tonight, but you know that once I get a little sleep and recover, I will come back around to loving you.

ETA: And I just managed to reference The Matrix in connection with Judith Butler's heterosexual matrix. Clearly, graduation cannot come too soon...
