I finally am getting around to finish up project stuff!
I havent really written much about project and i keep wanting to, it was just so much and so much to say. I feel so passionate about it and the expereinces that happend there. Its so overwhelming to begin to think about it all.
For instance, the friendships i developed there and the fellowship i expereinced, esp with 5 girls inpetiular was amazing. IT was such a great time, and great time of renewal. My dicipelor was amazing and i learned so much from her.
I also loved the serving there. To be honest, at times i really didnt. At times i did not want to wake up in the morning. Or i would be so hot in the sun i couldnt handle it. Or i didnt want to sand another wall. But Gods grace kept me going. and it was all worth it in the end. Because God was able to use us to be a such a blessing to these people. We would hear story after story of people who couldnt have done it. It was all God! The community blew me off my feet.
One thing i really learned personally was about the holy spirit and the importance of it. He is really the only thing that is going to change us and through the holy spirit is the only way i can defeat sin or have more love for a person. I read Galations 5 alot!
"Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit let us keep in step with the Spirit." Gal 5:24
Also, we studied first John, and ohhhhhhh man! that was amazing. I had so many like oHHHHH i get it now momments with that study!!! God taught me about obedience and that is when his love is made complete in us.
Not to mention all the good times we had at womans retreat dancing, our sqwencher parties. The amazing men of God who served besides us and encouraged us. IT was such a great time.
I end with this verse
"Not to us, O LORD, not to us but to your name be the glory, because of your love and faithfulness."
Psalms 115:1
Oh and here is a ltitle more about the project:
While in Pass Christian, we served in three ways. For 3 weeks I served through construction. I got to be apart of gutting a house for a single mom who got virtually no money to restore her home. As a team we put a new roof on a woman’s house who had bought it only weeks before the storm hit. We also put up many walls of drivewall!!
I also got to be apart of a Vacation Bible School that we help run though the local church. God really used the VBS in the lives of the local kids. We had a totally of 50 kids come and 4 come to Christ through it! I was able to be there when a girl named Brittney ask Christ to come into her life! There was such joy on her face and it was so awesome to be apart of that!
My favorite way that I served was in Gods Katrina Kitchen. The kitchen serves around 1,000 to 1,5000 people a day. We would arrive at 4:30am and prepare breakfast and then go to serve breakfast and lunch. Serving at the kitchen was such a great way to meet people from the community and love on them. I got to meet three woman who especially special to me. One day I was able to listen to their stories and share God’s love and hope with them.
Through out the six weeks in Mississippi I learned lessons on priorities. What really matters in life, and how the things of the world can be taken away from us in a matter of minutes. The only things that last are God, his word and the souls of men, and that is what my priorities should be.
I was also very impressed with the love the community showed us. They had nothing, but our little acts of service meant the world to them. They were SOOO thankful for every little thing. It was so awesome because it was a very natural way to say the reason we are here is because of Jesus.
So many people have been able to hear the gospel and experience God’s love in a real way because of the effect of Katrina. It was so awesome to see the body of Christ stepping up and living out what it means to be a Christian.
I am sooo thankful I was able to go on this summer project and serve in Mississippi. It was such an awesome experience and wonderful to see God at work. Please continue to pray for the lives of the people there. The rebuilding is still going on and lives are still hurting.
