Am I bound to eventually be weak? Whether I draw power from that weakness or accept it completely without any hidden agendas, are all women essentially weak? If this is something that I've been brainwashed into by the patriarchal society that I have inevitably been born into, doesn't that also indicate my mental weakness? Or take the game of chess ( Read more... )

Except that its not about physical strength.

Who cares if you are weaker physically than a man ? Do you care ? Does it effect you in day to day life ? If so, why ? Because it shouldn't. These type of things such as strength have been corrected for in intelligence. We have created weapons for the "weak". You can buy a gun, or mace.

If you've been brainwashed by the patriarchal society it does indicate your weakness. But compared to what ? Who is to say that men who were born in a matriarchal society wouldn't do the same thing you've done except in reverse ? If you are naturally at a disadvantage and you believe something or fail or lose because of that disadvantage it could be because you are weak, but more likely its just because there are forces overpowering you.

What makes you think there is nothing wrong with the pyschology "I'm stronger than you, therefore I don't need to listen to you"? There is quite a bit wrong with it, starting with the fact that physical strength dosen't really matter in today's society. In fact, its a bit of the opposite. The really strong guys are assumed to be stupid. Brawn without brains and that sort of thing.

Some of this is about nature, but a lot of it is about personality. Dominant women are dominant. How would they be fooling themselves ? By acting dominant to prove a point ? I don't think very many people in the S&M crowd are involved in that crowd to prove points or to champion the cause of feminism.

Yes sex predisposes the male to be dominant. But that can be changed. There are many alternative styles of sex. Female domination for one, as you mentioned. Again, merely because nature or society tells you to do something dosen't really mean a whole lot if your personality runs contrary to what society or nature is telling you to do.

If you like where you are, you have no obligation to change. But if you don't you can change. You can force men to respect you. Be smart, be successful. Both are completely possible for the American Woman. Thats reality. And if you can make it happen in reality, your not just "fooling yourself" into thinking your dominant.

I wasn't saying that it's about physical strength now, but naturally that's what it comes down to. I was saying that despite all the social cultivation of the sexes (which has improved immensly, I know that) if all of those limits were gone, nature has predisposed men to be superior, even if it's only physical, it still affects the psychology. I mention that physical characteristic because it is pretty hard to tell with most mental characteristics whether it's been "nurtured" or "natured", maybe psychologists know more, but I personally don't so I didn't want to pretend to know. Oh yes, childbirth is another. I'm not saying it's bad, but it naturally puts women at a disadvantage.
As far as sexual dominance, I didn't necessarily mean whips and chains. It's just another predisposition. And sure there are alternative styles of sex. I could mention positions. Cowgirl. Reverse cowgirl... umm, ok I don't know any more, but whatever the woman-on-top positons are. That's not too natural since it's a lot harder to get pregnant that way. Heh. Anyways. I know there's birth control, blah blah blah, of coures I know all these facts about our modern society and how much the position of women has improved over the years. Some might even argue that there are no boundaries anymore.
Basically all I'm saying is that no matter how much we strive to achieve everything, there's always a ceiling. That doesn't mean that women shouldn't try to get as close to it as they can and it definitely doens't mean that I'm throwing my hands up, but the fact is the ceiling is there and there's nothing anyone can do about it.
