This is the poem I am reading for the talent show on Friday.
Imperative Embrace
They tell her
That her pain's not real
That she's too young
To fully feel
The pain she says
Is in her heart
The pain she knows
Tears her apart.
They tell her
That her cries are solely
The normal teenage
Complaining only
They belittle
All her cries
But she knows
How deep they lye.
They tell her
How she's just a child
And her problems
Are just mild.
As if they'll disappear
Over night
But she already sees
How they're not right.
They demand that
She'd mature
And stop acting
So insecure.
A child one day
An adult the next
They change their minds
With every breath.
They tell her
All that she does wrong
How she's weak
Instead of strong.
But she can see
All she lacks
She wishes her confidence
Will one day come back.
She does not know
Where she belongs.
She does not see
Her life moving on.
Too many obstacles
Are in her way
Too many people
Diminish her each day.
Her pain is real
Her cries are deep
She's not a child or an adult
Right now she's in-between.
She can see her mistakes
But can you see her grace?
That's what she needs
The world to embrace.
