Outstretched, a hand is a hopeful sign
Of being so close you can touch it
But to a pessimist it can seem
Like that makes it the furthest way.
Smiling, a friendly face can do a world
Of good to any who are willing
But can encite anguish in
Those who can't accept it's meant for them.
Quiet, an ear can be lent any
Time to relieve any soul's burden
But not the silence nor the words that
Are meant to comfort always succeed.
Hopeful, eyes will tell the truth more than
Any words or expression could do
But looking someone else in the eyes
Can show the truth you never wanted.
