Policy Fail

So - the Tories recently released their much anticipated policy to 'recognise marriage' in the tax system.

Now this came to a lot of cries of discrimination in many circles did them a lot of damage, being seen as the usual traditional conservatives with old world morality.

So I was thinking wow...this is gonna be some policy, to cause this much of a ruckus over it it really must be designed to win the married family vote.

The they came out with a very muddled, confusing and limited policy it's almost laughable.

Essentially you don't pay tax on the first £6400 you earn in a year, the Tory policy will let a partner 'move' £750 of their tax free allowance onto their partner, saving about £150 a year...

£150...really? That's it?

And I mean...it's not like this effects every married couple...no only a very random selection of them, and not even the poorest ones!

Only when one person is earning over the limit and the other person is earning under the maxium limit does it have any effect.

So proffesional couple - both working full time? No exta cash.
One working full time, other partner working part-time 16 hours a week? No extra cash.
Disabled person with spouse acting as full-time carer? No extra cash.
Both unemployed with 2 kids - struggling in the reccession to find work? No extra cash.
One full time working and one stay at home housewife/househusband? Here's £150.

So we all can see exactly what kind of marriage the tories support - the one where the wife stays at home and looks after the kid...yeah...

Oh there is an income cap - £40,000...wow...cause people earning over £35k really need the extra cash right, not the unemployed and disabled...not them at all...

I wonder what policy the Tories will come with next - taking away free school meals to fund for holiday discounts to the south of France?

It's not even enough of a policy to sway votes...it's like they just felt like promising something to married couples then realised they didn't have enough money so come up with this in a panic.
