College, college, college, grades suck, college, college...

College news! or other academic stuff...:

1- No, I'm not in anywhere yet. I won't hear back from State for another four (eep!) days, and I didn't apply early anywhere else. But I can definitely feel the pressure from James to go there with him. It's rather stressing... I mean, almost a year-ish is nothing to sneeze at, and I could really do well with BioMed (it could really fit me!) but geez... if I either don't get into Carolina *or* State's Honors Program, then it's all a moot point anyways. And if I don't get into either, I will jump off a bridge. Because I know I'm a damned sight smarter than that.

2- Which leads me quite nicely into another piece of news. I'm a nominee for the 2008 Presidential Scholars Program! My nomination is almost solely SAT based thus far, but if I want to be a finalist (there are only 140ish), I have to submit essays, activities, etc. It's kinda awesome to be one of the 65 kids in North Carolina that they invited, and I'm sure it'd sound great to colleges if I hadn't applied already, but the perks are actually really depressing. I'll probably see Bush in person (my brother already asked me to kick him in the balls...) and other diplomats, important people, etc; and there's the expense paid trip to DC (awesomeness, we didn't see anything thing when I went to DC last year for business). But I was *really* expecting some kind of tuition something, maybe a tiny scholarship, at least, and there is nothing. As in, the kids from 2007's bit accomplishment was that they sent a letter to Bush asking him to stop the torture of terrorist suspects/inmates. If I got this thing, I'd actually try to do something with it... like support Obama! :p kidding..

3- More news! Despite the fact that the White House apparently likes me, and my grades from first trimester qualify me for privileges (though I've been too brainless to fill out the form), I am now spending my Mon-Thurs nights in SuperStudy. Because I fail... We get midterms on a 1-3 scale (1 being A-ish; 3 being C or lower; you get the idea) and I got a 1 in Volleyball. That's it. And two 2's and three 3's. Though the numberingness is kinda spiffy, I must say.

4- I got an invite to State's Women is Science & Engineering Village Open House! There aren't lots of women engineers, but there are a decent number of scholarships out there, so maybe this will convince my mom that it wouldn't be the end of the world if I went to State. I'm pretty well divided between State and Carolina, leaning towards Carolina maybe a little, but this might swing me over. Oh, and the First Lady of NC, Mary Easley, will be presiding. Not that that's really exciting, isn't her husband supposedly some kind of idiot?

Time to go RSVP for State's Open House! Later,
-Cristy
