I was numb for the first 10 min.
Then I screamed with Bethany, then left an unintelligible message for Shayna, exchanged "omg"s with Lesley and got tackled by Allen.
People just started taking to the streets. Wandering and jumping on each other and screaming and shaking and grinning from ear to ear. Then a huge mass stormed out of the library, having stormed in only minutes before, and poured out onto Baker lawn and then on toward frat row.
Of course. Our most holy ground. Frat Row. I was disappointed. Then I realized they weren't stopping. They were all going to the end of frat row. To the President's house. People were running with balloons and shooting off fireworks and chanting "USA". Then we all started singing patriotic hymns. Then we ran out of patriotic hymns so we sang the alma mater. Then the kids all chanted until President Wright came out and spoke to us. He told us how proud he was of us and what we'd helped to do and reminded us what a good generation of people we are and that now is truly our time. He didn't even ask anyone to climb off of the cop cars. After it was all done, a group of black students walked back to campus with their fists up and heads bowed. It was soothing and empowering all at the same time.
This is the only thing I was wanting from him. I know better than to expect miracles. I know he's not the messiah and that he's not going to turn everything into gold, but look at what he has accomplished. Look at who he's gotten to care. This was my motivation all along. Yes, I of course agree with most of his policy stances but this. This is what I voted for. A man who can do this to our country.
