Another day in Cataluña

Jun 13, 2007 10:42

Wow, we did a lot...woke up, went to a local bakery for some AMAZING pastry (1 euro for a massive chocolate cream croissant!), and wandered around the city for quite a while. Barri Gotic again to see the Barcelona History Museum (lots of old Roman ruins and artifacts...Kate was in Heaven!), The Manzanas de la Discordia (a single city block with three completely different modernist buildings, one next to the other next to the other, the last being Gaudi´s Casa Battló), the Sagrada Familia (of course! What trip to BCN would be complete without it? I had a long conversation with a living statue outside of the place, which was strange enough as is, but as he noticed my accent in Spanish, he realized that I was from the US. He asked what I thought of Bush, and of course, I told him...I still have a bit of the gold glitter-paint on my hand from when he kissed it! He told me that there definitely isn´t enough peace in the world, but that standing at La Sagrada Familia gave him hope for the future, as he was witnessing the beauty being built behind him, and he got to see all different nationalites and languages streaming in front of him, hopefully tipping him a few Euro-cents for a picture, of course!).
After all of this, our dogs were barking a bit, so we headed back to the hostel for a shoe change, and then headed out once more for Calle de la Merced for some low-key tapas and cider (tortilla española = heaven on a plate!!), then wandered around Las Ramblas once more, enjoying some ice cream and observing the more traditonal ¨tourists¨ thinking that they were getting an authentic Spanish meal from a menu in English.
Another beautiful day done in BCN...Parc Guell tomorrow, then on to Paris tomorrow night!
