A pretty decent spring break...

Mar 18, 2006 22:49

...well, compared to the week or so before, anyway.

Before: Really bad case of the flu, which caused the majority of the 10-15 pound drop I've had this semester. Crawling to Nurse Bob for assistance. No appetite whatsoever, and basically subsisting on Orange Wave Smoothies (extra scoop of peach) with Multivitamin Boosters and begging friends and my RA to pick up nibbles for me so I don't keel over and die.
After: Recuperation, after a visit to Dr. Namerow, who has been my pediatrician since Dia Cero. (Is 21 too old to see your pediatrician!?) Fed by all members of the family (flu + tortellini en brodo = much better), even those who needed to focus more on their own recuperation than mine (you hear that, Mom/Nannie? You can't say I'm not thinking about you!). Needless to say, I'm very appreciative. Plus, Mommy is as big of a reality-TV person as I am!!! Idol, Amazing Race, Top Chef, Iron Chef, Project Runway...I am a Nielsen whore! It also makes me happy that you can see Law and Order (and CI, and SVU) on NBC, Bravo, Spike, USA, and a million other places, and CSI is on Spike, too! I can now live out my dream of being a fearless moxie-filled crimefighter without the messy entrails, or being Penn Gillette's daugter. (a million points to anyone who actually understood the Penn reference.)

Before: Terrfied that I'd be stuck working over the summer at Pottery Barn or (gasp!!) ShopRite (Maria, I need a key!!). Biting my nails to the nub because none of the inquiries re: summer internships or jobs had gotten back to me (::shakes fist at Saveur and the Food Network::)
After: Using my connections (and a bit of Jewish Geography), I had an interview (in The City, no less!) to work as a Travel and Logistics staffer with AFS, the exchange program that I had used to go to Chile the first time, as well as host Aleja, my lovable Colombian hermanita. I think it went really well, especially considering that I know half of the people who work over at AFS-NJ, I'd just be crossing the Hudson (and commuting!!!) and working with the national office! And also considering that I've been involved with the org since 2001, and I have even filmed a yet-to-be-aired PSA spot for these guys, I hope I have it in the bag. I'd love to work for them, and it's even better than an internship, because I'd actually be paid!!! (also, the day after I got back to campus, I got a letter recognizing my application to the CondeNast corporation, which is the umbrella that encompasses CondeNast Traveler, Buon Appetit, and Gourmet! If by some chance the AFS thing falls through, an internship with these guys would be great, as well.)

Before: Feeling kinda lonely (being quarantined in your room kinda does that to a person.)
After: St. Patrick's Day Parade in Minneapolis with Annette and Mike, Italian Pie Shop w/Maggie, Bob, and Brittany...much, much better than auto-exile.

And, in a Cosmo-like variation...
Hot: Bachelet/Lagos
Not: Bush/Cheney
(yeah, y'all know what I'm talking about...VIVA CHILE MIERDA!)

In other news, Jackie looks wonderful in her Wedding Gown (no peeking, Adam!), and my episode of Millionaire was rerun over break. About 3 people have come up to me saying that they saw me on TV. Kinda wish that I had known...oh, well.

And there, Annette, is my update. Enjoy!
