A fond farewell to a sweet girl!

I said goodbye to Chelsea my adorable "fat cat" (as I like to call her) just a few hours ago. Out of nowhere I received a phone-call this afternoon regarding the ad I put in craigslist for her over the weekend. I had actually forgotten all about it as I was sure no one would be calling for her considering she IS an adult cat (most people want kittens). Anyway, the person who called wanted to come see her so I left him. I was a little put off when the car pulled up in front of my house and what looked like a teenager popped out and rushed over but I invited him in anyway. We spoke for a few minutes and my first instinct was to say "I really don't think this is a good idea" but as we spoke a little more I got the feeling that he was just nervous. As it turns out he is a college kid and him and his roommate (who was also in the car) were getting her together.
I handed her over and he left but shortly after his roommate called and asked a few questions about her and gave me his number and email address (so I can email info about her as I couldn't find her file while they were here).
Of course I am feeling a bit of dread as I always have in the past whenever I have let an animal I had adopted or was fostering go to a new owner. I wonder if I made the right decision and if these "boys" will trujly give her the love she deserves. In the end I know it wasn't fair for her to feel like she was trapped in the basement all the time and no one went down there to hang out with her. Plus it wasn't fair for me and Alex to have to clean up after her all the time when it was supposed to be Jess's job. I sat her down before the people got here to take her and she seemed a little upset but I really don't think it affected her as much as it did me. She doesn't see it as anything more than "taking something away from her".
I am hoping this will be good for Chelsea but I hope these boys will allow her the few days she needs to get used to them and her new home. Now I don't have to feel so bad for her and now I don't have to worry about if she gets sick and I cannot afford to take her to the vet. But it is probably going to hang over my head for a while that I gave up and gave her away.
