Woohoo! The new refrigerator is here, installed, and getting cool enough to put food in, with a grand total of about 18 hours from purchase to usability.

Beats the hell out of the week and a half Sears was going to take to get the one we initially wanted here and installed.

We wound up getting one of those French door models, where the freezer is on the bottom and the refrigerator portion has two doors opening from the middle. I think we'll like the way things are laid out a whole lot better than the old one. The main problem I've found with traditional side-by-sides is that the freezer is frequently this much too narrow for what you want to put in, so you wind up angling stuff, which eats up all your space. Or else you force it in, so that when you try to take it back out later, it and everything in the area falls out right on your foot.

In other food-storage news, we also got a chest freezer for the garage, after a mere three years of discussion. I don't have it plugged in yet, as our outlets in the garage don't accept 3-prong plugs and I can't seem to find any adapters, but I think we'll really like it, too. It's very small, about the same width as the fridge and the same height and depth as a counter. It should be more than ample for the two of us, though. My parents have one roughly the same size, and it seems about right for them.

I know this isn't really newsworthy, but I'm really just awfully excited about not having to unlock the sunroom doors, rummage around in the coolers, shoo the dogs back out away from the food, reshut the doors and fix the draft blocker every time I want anything that should be in the fridge.
