BONES Season 6 Overview: My Thoughts

Jun 04, 2011 19:19

This season actually bothered me more than season 4 or 5. With 4/5 we know where the show stood. They were trying to force Booth and Brennan’s ‘relationship’ or lack thereof with the ‘will they won’t they how come they haven’t had sex yet’ down our throats.

With season 6 they finally introduced Booth into a new love interest. For some Bones fans they liked Hannah a low, but for a lot of the B/B shippers she was the enemy from the very beginning. My issue with Hannah was that she was set up to fail from the VERY beginning. IE telling Kathryn that the fans are going to hate her. Hannah wasn’t created to show us that Booth was falling for someone else (Even though he was) she was created to slap the B/B shippers in the face. To show the fans whose show it really was, it was Hart’s. I believe he was just annoyed by all their attacking on Twitter. The fans showed their true colors with Hannah/Kathryn Winnwick in bashing her and the actress every chance they could get with showing their ignorance of attacking her Canadian accent.

So Booth became the target of their hatred toward the whole Booth/Hannah hate and began taking it out on Booth for being with Hannah and siding with Brennan because Brennan is the ‘victim’. Even though TECHNICALLY Booth told her that he was going to move on he had to. And he DID. Booth had to move on because his pining after a woman for 5 years isn’t romantic or sweet, it’s creepy and pathetic. A real man, even a real awesome, romantic, and sweet man would move on and find someone who actually did care about them. But no, according to the fans he was in the wrong. He wasn’t. He was a human being who didn’t want to wait around anymore.

So Brennan made a mistake and confessed it to Booth. But Booth loved Hannah and he was with Hannah. And he loved Hannah so much that he told her, which he SHOULD have done. Hannah is his girlfriend now; it’s not like he told Hannah a story Brennan said “Don’t tell anyone!” Booth told Hannah everything because he knew he SHOULD tell Hannah especially if he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her.

But Booth proposes and she turns him down. And that’s when Bones the show goes downhill for me. Hannah was this balance that the show really did need.

Something that really bothered me was that Booth had his meltdown after she rejects his proposal. And it’s never looked at again; it’s neatly swept under the carpet as everything else that’s SUPPOSED to be important on the show.

Then all of a sudden it’s back to forcing the hell out of B/B with meaningless dialogue and their usual attitudes and this TIME it was even more unrealistic and unbelievable because you don’t suddenly pick up and move on with someone else after something like that. If he really loved Hannah which I believe he did he wouldn’t or couldn’t do that. And that’s what bothered me. How forced they tried to make it.

The finale was a disgrace. Having her be pregnant? I’m still not buying Nathan saying they were always throughing this idea around, please. Your audience isn’t stupid like you think they are. This is the only writing team that WANTS their audience to be stupid.

My other issue with Bones is that they continue to make Brennan WANT to fit into Booth’s box of the ‘perfect woman’. And have you noticed, he goes for these intelligent, smart, head-strong, talented, witty women. But ends up getting upset by them? IE Hannah. Hannah gave him signs (Though we didn’t see them. We saw her freaking out at a proposal but that doesn’t mean anything imo. She moved in with the guy and got to know his kid. Those are signs that she could want to get married too. So that was handled badly) but on paper Hannah has said she wasn’t the marrying type and he proposes and she’s the enemy? Booth goes for these women who don’t want what he wants out of life…So I think he WANTS Brennan to change. An the way they change Brennan isn’t development it’s ‘change’ it’s drastic change that the writers do and they THINK it’s character development but it’s not.

So here we are seeing Brennan change even more and more for Booth. Also the last thing I find that is humorious is that the fans think they’re together, but they’re not on paper. Nothing says “We’re together, we’re in love”. They have a baby together, I bet there are people out there who have a child they don’t want to be married to or have that connection with. And just because you have a child together doesn’t mean you have to get married or be together. The times are a cha cha changing and the Bones writers need to realize that. Now Nathan said THEY ARE TOGETHER in some kind of context or the next, doesn’t mean they are. I mean remember when they promised you that B/B was going to have sex in season 4 finale? That went over REAL well. So I just don’t buy they’re together, I think A) It’s something they’re saying to get fans to watch without being mad B) In my opinion if they were together we’d see it more in the finale and we didn’t. We saw things they always do and there was no significance because of it.

The best episode lied with ‘The Sign in the Silence’. It felt like an episode from season 3 which is saying a lot. The episode was heart breaking and really pulled at your heart strings. I think it’s safe to say that the greatest episodes are the ones that don’t forced Brennan/Booth. They shouldn’t be the vocal point of this show, and the fans that view them as that are missing out on so much great stuff. This show could be so much more but the writers continue to make it a visual fanfic.
