Walking home from lab today, I saw two ambulances do a street race! At 5:30 in the evening!
They were next to each other, waiting at a light -- a red ambulance and a white one. The guy riding shotgun in the red ambulance hopped out, and stood with his arms raised, looking back over his shoulder at the red light. Then, the light turned green, he brought his arms down like he was holding checkered flags, and both ambulances floored it (n.b. ambulances have GREAT engines!)... and the guy grabbed the door handle and got back into his ambulance while it was moving!! Dude, that is so dangerous, but it was the first time I'd ever laughed out loud by myself walking home, that's for sure!
AND, the red one won! I have it on good authority that the red ones are driven by EMTs who are basically big kids, so my source wasn't surprised at the outcome.
