Help!!!

Why is it so hard to sit down and finish assignments that I know need to be finished?
Procrastination is a very big problem for me. When I try to get my work done, I just end up finding a more entertaining activity (like writing in my livejournal that I hardly ever update) and then I stress out later.
I need some good suggetions of effective ways

what i do (though i may not be the best person to take work advice from) is to tell yourself how fucked up shit will get if you don't do your work...now that i think about it, i see many faults in that plan, but it worked for me today.
