HEART
He’s always had heart. His father would say that, despite hours, weeks, even years of worry and aggravation. Despite the fact that the boy remained small and slightly scrawny for his blood, he’s made up for it with heart.
He’s got brains, his boss would be forced to admit. Even if he does go and get them bashed in from time to time. Despite the fact that he doesn’t always use them, or does so in ways that just piss people off, the kid’s definitely got brains.
He’s got guts, his friend thinks. The guy never gives up, even when he’s beaten. Despite the fact that he’s from a cushy background and has never had to fight for anything, he definitely has guts.
He’s got to make it. She thinks what the rest of them won’t. She told herself she could handle a life without him, but she didn’t mean for it to be without him. Despite the fact that he blew her off and walked away, he’s got to make it.
He’s got them. Spellbound, rapt, waiting for his next move. He’s got them all, tucked in his pocket; when they weren’t looking, he stole their souls. Despite his ex’s fears that he really has moved on, despite his friend’s frustration with his constant need to win, despite his boss’ belief that he’s so smart he’s stupid, despite his father’s worry about him being small and small time, he’s pulled off a big one here. He’s collected them all without them even noticing it happened. Now, they can’t get away. Despite themselves, they care. So they watch and they wait and they pray.
