That's what I used to describe a tie to someone at work today. That's when I realized that I was too sick to do anything right. hehehe.
SOOOO I thought that I got my irregular sleeping habits under control, but alas, I am up again with no tiredness in sight. Usually writing this stuff makes me bored and sleepy though, so there ya go.
I recently picked up two new CDs this weekend. Let me describe them to you;
Audiovent - Dirty Sexy Knights In Paris: This was a whimsical buy, and it turned out to be not to un-like a diamond in the rough. The singer is Brandon Boyd's brother, and the guitarist is Mike Einziger's brother. In case you didn't know, Brandon Boyd and Mike Einziger are the singer and guitarist from Incubus. One would expect Audiovent to be a sort of "mini-Incubus" or "Incubus: Now Sugar-free!", but this is not the case. Though you can tell the similarities of the Brothers Boyd's voices, the actual vocal styling and lyrical directions are quite different. Oddly enough, though Audiovents' Jason Boyd has a bit more growl and bite in his voice, he is actually younger than Brandon. He also did a lot more with his falsetto then Brandon did in previous Incubus albums (excluding A Crow Left Of The Murder, of course). Benjamin Einziger's guitar has a slightly similar sound to his brothers (maybe he took a few pointers), but his riffing technique is completely different, as you will find that your average Audiovent chorus to be slightly harder than a usual Incubus one. That, combined with solid bass and drum work that isn't even close to an Incubus sound, produced a very desirable and listen-able band. I recommend it to anyone. Considering how it's also only about 12 bucks, you should go get it right now.
Damian Rice - O: This guy was recommended to me rather recently, and I'm still trying to find a way to thank her in some way that would even come CLOSE to equaling being introduced to some truly amazing music. He hails from Dublin, Ireland (as most cool people do), and was described to me as "Jack Johnson if he just chilled out". At first, this made me skeptical, because I'm not exactly the biggest Jack Johnson fan, but I decided to give it a shot anyways. After listening to it, I was actually reminded more of Jeff Buckley then anyone else, but just less in terms of instrumentation. I am obviously not a real writer or anything, and my knowledge of anything musical past drums is limited, so I'm going to pretty much sum it up like this; if you want an awesome album to cry/sleep/laugh/read/make love/drive on a dark road all alone to, get this right now. When this guy sings, the emotion of it wrenches your heart. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that after recording each one of these songs, Rice broke down crying and had to recover for a couple of days. That's how emotional it is. Get it.
Like I've said before, music is one of my passions, so a good deal of my spare time has been spent listening to these albums and rejoicing in the discovery of new music and inspirations.
I have decided that I will be doing a follow up on my post I made concerning the people that come into my work soon, so stay tuned for that. I was working this weekend and I couldn't believe how many stereotypes I didn't cover/make fun of. It actually made me laugh at how angry I was that I forgot about them (them being people different from me).
I like my apple pie warm and my statements BLANKETED.
Also, in Disalto news, it looks like we will be looking into re-recording those 3 songs we have up, plus adding another 2 or so. We STILL don't have a singer, but I'm still pretty optimistic about this whole project in general. I really have the feeling that when people hear us playing they will at least not throw beer bottles and used septic fluid at us. My expectations are pretty high, I know, but I think that it's good to have a positive outlook on life. Hey, look at it this way, the bassist from Dredg (www.dredg.com) said our shit was cool, so that has to count for something, right? Of course.
