I'm so tired I can barely focus on the keyboard, but I wanted to post and say that the party was lovely, despite the nauseating steaminess that is Iowa in August. I'm always happy to see everyone, and I'm glad so many could make it. Next time, I will place an order for more bearable weather ( Read more... )

Being a SAHM is so rewarding with a little one. They grow more into a real person every day, and you're there to see it and appreciate it and participate in it. It's also enough to drive an otherwise intelligent, interesting and slightly warped person even battier. Being deprived of significant adult contact is not always fun.

That being said, if you are comfortable with the circle of friends that you already have, then don't feel like you have to make more just for the sake of adding more numbers or to get out more. You can do all sorts of fun stuff without much mingling of strangers. I highly recommend checking local libraries for story hours. Nice low-key way to introduce the little one to borrowed books, and usually a good way to scope out potential playmates. You are both also always welcome up here! School starts next week, but the kids and I are home around 3:30 and they would love to play with Eva while you and I chat. I'd enjoy that as well!

Molly wants me to tell you how much she's enjoying her new big pad of paper. She had to pull it out and show it off at the campground yesterday. Our neighbors found it highly entertaining to watch her lug it around since it's as big as she is. She's busy making butterflies and flowers all over the place now that janet_lin showed her how. Thank you!

Please tell Molly I'm so glad she likes the pad of paper! Butterflies are one of my very favorite things too -- the next time she comes to visit, I'll show her my butterfly book, which has lots of cool photos.

Also, thank you for the invitation to come and visit, and for the advice about the libraries. I did in fact (finally) get a library card at the local library a couple of weeks ago, and I knew immediately that this was something I had been missing and hadn't realized it. My parents took me to the library every Saturday when I was a kid, and they still go themselves. It's a great way to feel connected to a community, and it's fun to pick out new and interesting things to read (things you can return if you don't like them :) and recommend to others if you do).
