Sitting here covered in a thick sheet of ice. For entertainment this morning, we watched trees fall. If you stand outside you can hear trees cracking and exploding all over the place. My dad got so worried that this big ol' pine tree was going to fall on his wood shed that he took a shotgun out there and tried to shoot some of the ice off its branches. Yeah we are that redneck, but my dad is actually a really good shot, but there was simply too much ice for it to make much difference. I'd forgotten how nasty ice storms can get, but at least this time we have power. I was thinking about all the way old folks have of telling if its going to be bad weather. My grandma always used to say if there was a ring around the moon, then bad weather was certain. I have found this to be true and its kinda creepy. Another is if the smoke from the chimney is drifting to the ground instead of rising. Its weird, but I think all this stuff might actually have some scientific basis. Anyways, I have rediscovered a ghetto-delight of my youth...just melt a few marshmallows in the microwave for a few seconds and dribble a little chocolate sauce on them. Ghetto, but damn tasty.
