It's a....
It's a BOY!
Rob and I are so happy to announce that our little boy, Robert John, came into this world on Tuesday, March 21st, 2006 at 4:38 PM!! He's sleeping in the pack and play right now!
I was checked last Thursday and the doc said that my cervix was softening and I was MAYBE a fingertip dialted.. I think he was saying that just to be nice! :) Had a good weekend.. Got some things done around the house.. Went to work on Monday.. had the kids guess on the sex and stuff.. nothing happened besides getting teased that I was going to go into the first week of April... LOL.. I stayed late that night to get a huge letter to my maternity sub with all the little things that I normally do with my kids.. Talked with my principal as she made her guess in the baby pool they started.. I laughed because they all were pretty much saying the first week of April.. I told my principal that I was going to screw them all over and have the baby early.. she just laughed at me.. I'm the one laughing now!! :)
So, came home.. cooked dinner.. same old same old.. Went to bed... DH accidentally pulled my hair around 4:15AM.. Realized I had to go to the bathroom.. so I did.. came back in bed and had a few tiny, tiny, contractions.. nothing major.. just annoying.. Well.. after about a half an hour I couldn't get back to sleep but had to go to the bathroom again.. Okay.. whatever.. went.. I got up off the potty and walked out of the bathroom and I had to turn RIGHT back around! Went yet again.. got up.. well, can you guess I had to go again? I'm sure you can see where this one is leading..
So.. Rob knew I was stirring.. and I told him.. this is just NOT normal.. Even though preggy women are supposed to pee alot, I really never did.. So I told him I was going to call up to L&D to see what they said.. I wasn't sure if my water had broke or the baby was sitting on my bladder having a good time.. So I called and they said the only thing to do was to come in to get checked.. So, we put all the stuff in the car just in case and get there around 5:30 AM.. I'm sitting there at the registration desk just leaking away.. I figured I wouldn't be leaving the hossy without my baby in my arms.. By the time someone from OB came to get me my pants were SOAKED through..
She wheels me into the L&D room and gets me into a gown and on the monitors.. She tested me, which wasn't nice.. Litmus paper up the cooter with no gel.. OUCH.. Of course it came back positive.. my WATER BROKE!! :) So glad that it happened while my DH was home (he has an hour drive to work each day both ways) and when I wasn't in school.. My contrax picked up and I was 1 CM dialated but still thick. she was going to let my body try to get into a good pattern on its own.. Doc came in and checked me around 7AM and I was 3 CM and 50% effaced.. but the contrax weren't consistant enough.. so I got put on pitocin.. oh good lord.. I was able to keep up with the pain until then.. those contrax hit and hit hard and fast.. I was 3-4 and they came to give me my epidural.. The anesthesiologist must have hit a nerve or something putting it in because I had this HORRID pain running down my leg.. I was screaming and begging her not to touch my back or my leg.. She finished putting it in, however it only worked on my right half.. I still could feel the contrax on the left side of my belly and sharp pains in my hip.. so of course she has to REDO the epidural.. The local had some time to get in there, so the second time around wasn't so bad.. but she still hit that damned nerve again.. The second time it worked.. and I was checked around 11:30AM and was 5cm and 80% effaced.. Doc got really busy and the nurse finally checked me again around 3PM.. COMPLETE! The baby was still high though so it took about a half an hour to let him come down further..
I was ready to start pushing around 3:30 PM.. Couldn't tell when I was having contrax, so when they told me to push, I did! :) When he came further down the canal I then felt the pressure and could tell when the contrax were happening.. They showed me a mirror and I saw his head peeking out through! I pushed a bit more and then his head came out! Again, they showed me and I was totally amazed and in shock! Doc told me to bring my hands down and I grabbed the baby and pulled him the rest of the way out!! :) Childbirth is an amazing, amazing experience.. I still am in shock that I'm his mommy and I don't have to give him back! We had lots of visitors and plenty of hosptial staff knocking at the door.. We had a pretty good night the first night.. he slept from 1-5.. but Wednesday night into Thursday was really bad.. he had gotten circumsized (sp?) and was sleepy most of the morning.. then the visitors came and everyone played pass the baby.. which means he pretty much napped all afternoon too.. when it came time to sleep at night, it just didn't happen.. he was very very fussy and I couldn't put him down for 15 minutes because he'd wake back up.. Finally around 5 I held him on my belly and we laid down together.. I then cuddled him to my side and we slept like that until about 5:30 or so when the nurse came in to get him for his checks.. Of course I was up all day.. DH let me get a 2 hour nap last evening so I could take care of him through the night and not be too tired.. DH has to work today.. Robbie latches on very well.. I'm hoping that my milk comes in sometime today.. He ate around 1:30 AM and got his diaper changed around 2:30.. He woke up around 6! After the night before, that was a beautiful thing! I'm sore, as to be expected.. but moving around well.. I love this little guy so much.. There aren't enough words to express how I feel about my new son.. It hasn't really sank in yet.. It is trying to slowly.. I miss being preggy to feel him moving around and listening to his heartbeat, but I wouldn't trade looking into his eyes, holding him and feeding him for the world.. I just can't begin how to thank God for my little man.. he sure is a miracle... I have lots of pictures to download to my Yahoo photos page.. I'll probably be doing that later today..
