Would someone please explain to me, or at least refer me to an explanation of, (1) why South Ossetia, at least 94% of whose population seems to prefer independence from Georgia, has not attempted any formal, diplomatic secession; (2) Why Russia is interested in preventing Georgia from reacquiring control of the region; and (3) why these questions have not come up yet in any media i've yet found.
