Interesting week....

Jan 11, 2005 21:25

It all started on Friday night with hurricane force winds of around 90-120 mph :( Then the rain started, wasn't a nice atmosphere at all. Woke up at 5:30am Saturday morning to find the power was off, apparently had been off since 4am!! Anyway do you know how hard it is to get dressed and stuff by torch??? We waited all day for the power to come back on but no such luck. That night we played Monopoly by candle light (only game that takes up lots of time!) Woke up on Sunday morning, still no power. That day went by and still no power by the night time. Those days are so long when you have no electricity, I got bored very easily!! The reason there was no power was due to extreme flooding in our city caused by the rain. Huge trees were blown down and my end of the city was cut off from the central part due to flooded roads. Phone lines were down and mobiles had no signal. Total boredom! Anyway I still had to go to school on Monday (its out of the city so wasn't flooded) as I had national exams to take. There was no power in the school so we had to be transferred to another school with power! 5 exams I took that day, 3 Biology in the morning followed by a half hour break and then 2 Maths exams in the afternoon. I was exhausted! Anyway power finally came on at around 4pm that afternoon so all was well. Glad to watch TV again!! We had small surges that night but it's been fine ever since *touches wood* I've had 3 Chemistry exams this morning....so that's 8 in total in 2 days. I've got 4 left to take in a space of a week and a half. Why they couldn't spread the others out I don't know??!!?

Ok well that's my weekend, how was everyone elses? If you watch the news often, I know that my city has been on it, local and international. If you wish to see pictures go to www.bbc.co.uk/cumbria where you can also view video footage of the devestation :(

That's all for now!
