Inauguration Day 2009

Out with the old...In with the new. (Good riddance...Welcome!!)

Yesterday was the inauguration of Barack Hussein Obama, who will be our 44th U.S. President. Catherine took off work to stay home and watch it with me. We sat on the couch ALL DAMNED DAY watching all of the goings-on in D.C. My butt is numb because my couch is on its last leg. (Thank God I'm getting a big enough tax check to get us a new one soon!!!) It was all fascinating to me. I couldn't help but wonder all day what was going on in the minds of our new President and his family. What a time for them!! I can't imagine the excitement they were all experiencing.

The thing that strikes me most is how important family is to them. I was thrilled to hear that Grandma was going to be staying in the White House with them. How wonderful for the girls to have her there to share the experience, and to be yet one more familiar face to them amidst the millions of new faces they will be seeing. It is my assumption that their strong family values will play a big part in how President Obama runs our country. We need a president who keeps family in mind when dealing with soldiers serving for our country and when considering our current economic state. I believe that he will inject a bit of rationale and humility into each decision he makes. He seems to me to be an honest man who truly does want to make our nation a better one...not just fatten his wallet as I believe our previous leader did.

Nevertheless, I do believe that change is at hand. Obama has great potential, and I'm anxious to see what he can do for us.

obama, family
