walkabout

One thing I like to do when it's cold and dark is go on VIRTUAL CYBER WALKS on the treadmill downstairs. Walking is about the least painful thing I can do these days, so I do it as much as I can.

All you do is search up a walking tour on YouTube, stuff in your earbuds, and listen to your latest audiobook as you explore the great cities of the world. It doesn't seem like it should work, but it kind of does. For some reason, it's way more enjoyable than trying to watch a show. I guess it's the sense of motion and progress. I nearly fell off the end of the treadmill during one walk when a car turned into the path of the cameraman and I instinctively slowed down to let it by.

So far, my favorite city is Seoul, South Korea, although Helsinki, Finland (pictured here) is also good for a late-night winter walk. I kind of want to make my own walk-around videos, but I think these high-quality ones are made with 4K cameras and stabilizing rigs. My generations-old GoPro strapped to my chest would probably generate a bunch of dark, shaky footage that nobody would want to watch.

Anyway, goodbye.
