cherry stop plaza

Something strange about me is that I like little shopping plazas. Little ones, with nice stores. Preferably U-shaped. I don't know why I like them; I just do.

The plaza in Chaffee on Route 16 has the best name of any plaza.

I don't know what it signifies. As you can see, none of the businesses has anything to do with cherries. In fact the offerings could hardly be duller or less appealing (that's not even my physical therapy place).

The building itself is remorselessly utilitarian, almost brutalist in design. Truly unworthy of its own moniker. A place called Cherry Stop Plaza should be...cuter, cozier. There should be a café (with cherry pie, strong coffee, greasy donuts, and a service bell), a book store, a toy shop, a Radio Shack (somehow), and a pet shop. And a kindly old urologist.

If Cherry Stop ever goes belly-up, I call dibs on the sign. I'll mount it on the wall of our barn. I have always wanted a proper name for my house, other than "my house." You have your Wuthering Heights, your Green Gables, your Pemberley, your Tara. Behold Cherry Stop Plaza. "Where's Thanksgiving this year? Why, Cherry Stop Plaza. Be our guests." If you question the wisdom and excellence of this plan then you are a lout and a churl. Good day.
