[the video feed clicks on and you are given a picture of a smiling blond girl. she waves at the camera and then clears her throat]Hello Somarium! for those of you I haven't met, I'm Namine. I'm on a bit of a mission. See, I thought that since we don't really know very much about Somarium; we should start a school where we can learn more! I'm ( Read more... )

NO! [Her voice is terribly rushed, almost as if the words are just pouring out of her mouth.]

We don't need a school! That would be waaaay too much work for everyone. You know everyone here is from so many countries and continents that it would be impossible to make a schedule that would work considering how many different holidays there are in a year. We'd be taking weeks off at a time to keep all the people here pleased!

Besides! Who really needs it? I've already done my time!

[she looks overwhelmed by the girl and tries to process everything that was said; this being the case there are several moments of silence before she finally answers]

Done your time? Holidays? Time off? hmmmm, obviously there is more to this "school" concept than I have been told. [she looks confused and thoughtful as she tries to sort everything out]

.... [she looks like a puppy you just kicked and left in the rain] But...But it sounded like such a fun idea. Why is School so bad?

Ugh, do you want the short list or the long one?

[she looks extremely confused and still a little terrified] um...the long one?

Bitchy teenage girls, lazy teenage boys, mounds and mounds of homework, pages and pages of essays, mean teachers who do everything they can to make sure you fail, stupid teachers who don't mean to but accidentally make you fail, hours of detention for trying to be cool, a complete waste of time when you could be doing something better, forced to learn things you don't need to know, absolutely no independence at all, and worst of all, disgusting cafeteria food.

[ok. overwhelmed again. take it one step at a time namine. deep breaths. you can do this]

But...School here would be different! you'd only have to attend if you WANT to learn. and we'd be learning about Somarium; useful things that we could use while we live here. I'm...not sure what homework or grades are; but I'm sure we wouldn't have to have them.

It'd be...a chance to learn for the sake of learning! Just for fun. [shy smile. hope that works]

[she shakes her head no] I've never been to school before. That's why I think it sounds like fun. A place where you can learn about...everything. [longing sigh] like a dream come true.

[Wow, Steph feels sorry for you. Everyone feels that enthusiasm for school until they get there.]

Well, while you are there, the teachers will grade you on your performance. A's and B's are the best grades to get, but C's mean you did average. If you manage to get below that, a D or an F, that means you fail school and have to work at a fast food joint the rest of your life.

Oh! that sounds...harsh. But we certainly won't have anything like that at my school! I want to make it fun!

So you want to go to school just for fun?

crayon_memories January 13 2010, 08:05:35 UTC
Sure! We could do all sorts of fun things! Learning about Som would only be one aspect of it! We could have drawing time and learning to cook time and whatever else someone wanted to lead!

don't you get bored here sometimes? wouldn't it be nice to have somewhere you know you can go any day to have fun and learn new things?
