Big thanks to super_nezumi for her support but I am sorry to announce that poor Charlie had to be helped to the Rainbow Bridge at the vet's today.
He had been doing so brilliantly, he was active and not letting any left-side weakness nor blindness get to him. He put on weight, he grew stronger and was like his old self apart from a bit of wonkiness and a foolish desire to climb about.
I noticed he'd been sleeping more and was really lethargic this morning, not even stirring for his favourite banana chips. He eventually did move but totally collapsed to one side and couldn't get back up again. I gave him more padding and comfort but he seemed to be really confused and was struggling to drink or get food when being offered it by hand. Since his loss of vision his nose and whiskers had been going ten-to-the-dozen to radar his environment but by this afternoon he hardly sniffed anything. I knew it really didn't look good at that point so called the vet. Normally at the vets he would be trying to wriggle away but this time he was just listless and I think he was waiting for the end himself.
He was a brave and stubborn little guy and he will be very missed.
Enjoy plenty of banana chips and yogies on the other side.
