Bone Marrow Donation

Jun 11, 2009 09:15

From June 8 - 22, the National Marrow Donor Program is offering free registry to the first 46,000 people who sign up to join the registry.

Normally, the process of testing and registering one individual to the registry costs about $100 - and potential donors are asked to cover this cost themselves. This event, the "Marrowthon", is a fantastic opportunity to join the registry for free.

While I don't know anyone personally who has received a bone marrow or blood cell transplant, I have entirely too many family and friends who have battled cancer in one form or another. Marrow donation is one way that you might be able to help someone else. Really, how often do you have the chance to save a life?
