What happened to Shifted Lands?

Sep 29, 2008 10:25

Let me preface this by stating that I am posting all this because I care about the game I created. I am not bitching--I am trying to figure out how it can be saved from the direction it is headed. I have every right to be concerned about why I feel it is headed south (and I dont mean Florida). This is MY LJ and its about the game I created. If ( Read more... )

-I agree. I understand having a new wyrm be "clear" for a few months while Plot figures out what color to make them, especially those characters we see very rarely for one reason or another. That makes perfect sense, up to a point. However, there is at least 1 PC who has been a wyrm for over a year, is at nearly every event in MI and IN, and still doesn't have a color...? That's getting a little ridiculous now.

-I agree here too, we have PCs with new skills that are still not in the rulebook... not even in the database for them to look up on their online character viewer! While I understand that these things are supposed to be rare, Shawn made an excellent point that we know more about Ascetics and Filchards than the new skills. "Tracking," "Mentor," and "Prestige Classes" need to hurry up and be brought out. If the rules aren't completed yet, PCs shouldn't be learning them yet!

Regarding character histories:

Some plot marshals are a bit nervous about using character histories in plot hooks. Why? Because I personally have done more than 10 now and nearly all of them were loved by those involved, and the rest of the players actually claimed that the plot line sucked because it was centered on one person.

Character history hooks are percieved as tailored plot and "favors" to those who wrote them by some players. So, many plot folks avoid them.

That is completely understandable. I can totally see where that line of thought comes from sometimes. However, in some cases, with a little added creativity from Plot, a character history tid-bit can tie in with a larger short/medium-term plotline that involves a larger group.

Oh it can be done for sure. I just know that my first few attempts must have sucked :)

I'm more than tired of being punished for someone blabbing to an NPC what we're doing and that NPC being a spy so we all get attacked anyway.

2 sides to that coin. The czar seeming to know all our moves as we made them has made some of us hypersensitive about it happening with this plotline.

Agreed, not quite what I was referring to but agreed.

Take your info-hoarding douche-bags line and shove it up your ass. The reason that the people don't go and tell everyone is because plot has made it very apparent that when we tell people things, people die. So if you wanna be offensive and say ignorant dumb ass shit like that, why don't you do a little research first.

Some of the complaints may be because the regular joe shmo PC might be assuming there is more information known by others than there really is! I know I was on the other side of that coin many times when playing Craven...

People assumed we had tons of info when the reality was we really didnt know much more than a brand new player (at times)!

Again, not what I was referring to...

I'm talking about when an NPC comes in with a plot hook or a mod invite and talks to a random PC, and that Random PC keeps it to themselves for whatever reason. Maybe they don't know what it means so they keep their mouth shut, maybe they only tell a little bit and keep the rest to themselves, maybe they think someday that information will be their trump card, or maybe the character is an evil prick and they don't want town to solve that problem whether it's big or small.

A lot of what Plot sends out gets missed by the majority of town because of this method of delivery.

"The reason that the people don't go and tell everyone is because plot has made it very apparent that when we tell people things, people die"

Awesome point. Plot can fix this too.

And you obviously didn't read what I wrote. It doesn't matter if the whole town should know if plot comes in and tells someone something and they know that if some jerk gets a hold of this info they could take it to someone and people could end up permanently dead. I'm just saying that you don't know what you're talking about, at all, and you should not be putting down people when you obviously don't know whats going on.

I'm not putting down anybody, I'm not talking about ANYONE specific! I could keep repeating myself, but you'd have to take your thumbs out of your eyes to read it first. I am not talking about END-OF-THE-WORLD-WE'RE-ALL-GOING-TO-DIE-IF-WE-DON'T-DO-THIS-RIGHT plot.

Plot sends out small hooks for mods or short-term and local plot every single event, and only 1 or 2 ever get done because people who get the hooks (I have no idea who they are) don't tell anyone for some reason. Plot gets frustrated because they spent time setting up the mod and preparing the plot for nothing, and the PCs complain there was nothing to do.

I've seen it as an NPC and a PC (though only after-the-fact as a PC, obviously.)
