friendofspirits And since this would make #7 again (I swear, I must have some curse here), yes I can handle seven characters, as long as all seven muses stay alive for me. I posted with Flik as promised despite recent threading, and everyone else had a post last month and recent threads. Pretty much I was considering him from the moment I played the game and hoped I would have a chance so I definitely thought this through and it isn't just on a whim that I'm apping him, more that I'm doing it sooner than planned due to apps closing.
Character
Name: Shi-Long Lang
Fandom: Ace Attorney Investigations
Gender: Male
Age: 27
Time Period: Post game (and consider that the spoiler warning, there will be case 5 spoilers here)
Wing Color: Black with orange and yellow designs much like his coat.
History:
Lang Zi says: ....Just go already. Also info on the
two cases he appears in. He has a tiny appearance at the end of case 4, but these two are his major roles.
Personality: First off, Shi-Long Lang is an agent for Interpol, this fact alone says a lot about him. He's rather young and is already quite well known for the sheer number of arrests he has made. So he's very good at what he does.
His name also says a lot about him. As he states in game the name "Lang" means "wolf" in his native language (and the chinese reading of the kanji for his name is also the same meaning). Lang very much exudes many traits of a wolf, to the point that he gets called "Wolfy-boy" by Edgeworth's partner, Kay. Lang has a pack mentality. He will make comments about how important the pack is and how the pack should work together at all times. When we first meet him, he chides Edgeworth for going it alone and blames that for the prosecutor being kidnapped while trying to pay a random to kidnappers. He also makes many comments that allude to his wolflike traits. It doesn't bother him much if people poke fun at him for this or give him those nicknames, he's the one who brings up the meaning of his name and all. If anything he's proud of this trait and who he is.
Agent Lang seems like a complete asshole at first really. His first remarks to Edgeworth are cruel and threatening. He judges things quickly and can make mistakes because of this. He has a huge ego, though not overinflated, he really is quite capable of many of his boasts. He's the type to act quickly, though not completely without thought. His logic will be sound, but he may be missing pieces of the puzzle because tiny details can be missed in quick judgment of a crime scene.
But as things progress we see the sheer charisma he has and how he treats people. He complains about counting off his men saying that everyone no matter their rank is #1. He holds absolute trust in those who work for him and will take responsibility for their actions, good or bad. He will admit to his mistakes and apologize for them and correct his errors as he can.
And to him, family means everything. He has taken it upon himself to restore the Lang name to its former glory and takes the teachings of his ancestor, Lang Zi, very seriously (and Lang Zi's philosophies seem very much shoot first, ask questions later). He will very often spout off proverbs from Lang Zi, which as the game progressed, made less and less sense. Honestly at times it seemed like he was making the proverbs up on the fly, and I will likely have to do the same unless one he used in game is appropriate or the canon ever gives a listing of more Lang Zi proverbs.
Basically, a tough guy who looks the part and acts it, but deep down a very caring person who cares about his family and men greatly. He'll do what it takes to arrest a criminal no matter how slippery that criminal may be.
Strengths:
Physical: Lang is most definitely one tough man. While it isn't shown in game, what we do see shows he'd be perfectly capable of taking down even the most violent of criminals. Considering that he even took a bullet to his leg and still kept going shows just how tough this man really is.
It does appear he has knowledge of kung fu and is far more likely to use that than to pull out a gun even if the one he is arresting also has a gun.
And Lang isn't the type to let injury or illness stop him. In case 5 he was shot in the leg and still kept going. It is questionable as to if he even took the time to get the bullet removed when he left for a short time after arresting the person who caused him to get shot since he was back so quickly. Basically the only thing that is going to stop Agent Lang from making an arrest is his own death.
Mental: For all his obvious brawn, he's got brains too. It's necessary to be a good investigator. He can look at a crime scene and have a very good idea what is going on in a short time. His logic is very good (though not perfect). He's also very quick to come up with the strategy for how to deal with a tough criminal as was shown in case 5 when he accused Franziska falsely on purpose just so he could convince Alba to let them investigate further and it was his doing that allowed them to even be able to arrest Alba later. By this point, he knew that if he could just get them the needed tools, they would get their man.
Emotional: He exudes stubborn and tough, but all in all, he's actually a pretty caring guy. To him friends and family mean everything. He places a high value on people as was noted in case 3 when his men counted off and he objected to the idea of giving them numbers saying that they are all #1. He takes care to know facts about his agents, like remembering the birthday of someone's younger brother's wife's younger brother's birthday and got a gift for it.
Weaknesses: (Physical, mental and emotional; PLEASE PROVIDE CANON EXAMPLES)
Physical: Lang may be one tough guy, but he also is completely normal and mundane. True, he probably can use a gun and defintiely showed skill with hand to hand fighting when he arrested Shih-na, but there is a limit to what that can do against some of the magical powerhouses in Luceti.
Mental: He's actually pretty impatient. His philosophy is to arrest as many criminals as quickly as possible. He very often will be wrong about who he arrests. And because he moves so quickly at investigating a crime scene, he often will miss details, like the lack of mud on the Blue Badgermobile.
He understands this and will admit to his mistakes. He did even apologize to Kay for her false accusation even though he was not personally responsible for it. But to him, he is responsible for making arrests and the rest can be sorted out in the courtroom.
Also, because his world is completely lacking in the supernatural, he will have a very large weakness in dealing with anything magical. He's very much not accepting of magical things and that will take time for him to be able to accept that a place like Luceti is a very different reality than what he is used to.
Emotional: He very much has a pack mentality when it comes to his men (and women). Once someone has gained his trust, they will have it to the very bitter end. This is a weakness because of the fact that he can judge people quickly and he can be so easily wrong. He very much misjudged Shih-na and that was very problematic for him, but he stood by her even in the face of hefty evidence against her and even took a bullet to save her life when he knew she was guilty and had been a spy causing problems for him.
And this mentality can be problematic for him because he takes responsibility for his men. To him their mistakes are his mistakes. He also can be very territorial. Basically he is very much like the wolf that his name refers to. His pack means everything to him and he will protect them until the day that he dies.
Of course, in Zheng Fa, many people in law enforcement are members of his family, so this does explain a lot about why he treats his agents the way he does, they are also family.
Also, he has a very amusing tendency to spout off random Lang Zi proverbs. What is especially funny is that the more angry or nervous he gets, the less sense the proverbs start to make.
And lastly, he has an immense hatred of prosecutors. He did grow to respect Franziska and Edgeworth, but he still said he disliked prosecutors even if he took the time to go see Edgeworth in court. In his mind, they are the exceptions, not the rule.
Samples (ALL samples must be set in Luceti-verse.)
First Person:
[Sounds of howling laughter, then it quickly dies.] I guess humans can sprout wings after all. I'm sure those two prosecutors would be amused to see me now.
[Sounds of footsteps on grass.] Where did my pack go? Don't tell me I'm the only one here. They had better not be harmed in any way.
Whoever did this, they will be paying for their crimes. Lang Zi says "A wolf without his pack is a very angry wolf." This wolf won't be stopping until his teeth are sunk into the neck of whoever did this.
Third Person:
He just could not help laughing at this situation. It wasn't all that long ago that he was telling Edgeworth that humans don't sprout wings and could not fly, and what has happened? He's sprouted wings. Of all people, Agent Shi-Long Lang now has wings, how those prosecutors would be laughing just like he was if they saw this.
That just should not be possible, yet here he was, a human with wings. Well, at least it seemed he wasn't able to fly. That somehow would just be too much to handle.
Whoever did this, they were going to pay for it. One count of kidnapping, one count of theft at least, and one count of illegal body modification. Yeah, that was enough to put these criminals away for quite a few years. There was probably far more, since he couldn't find see any of his pack around, they may well have been attacked. Quite likely assault would need to be added, he had been unconscious for a time after all.
He just needed to find them first. This wolf's bark was definitely not greater than his bite. He'd enjoy sinking his teeth into these criminals. Probably even more than he had enjoyed sinking his teeth into Alba.
And he wasn't going to find the criminal without some evidence. So the first thing he needed to do was to find some. So he started looking around at the scene here to find anything besides the fact that his clothes were missing and he now had sprouted wings.
And he came upon the journal quickly. That was odd, he didn't recall having a journal, but yet it had his name on it. Was there some message from his kidnappers in here perhaps?
Well, he'd just have to open it up and see, right? Can't get anywhere without checking all the evidence of course.
