I just caught a portion of a campaign speech by Hillary in Texas, and I nearly laughed my gonads off. She's trying to ingratiate herself (or maybe it's subconscious?) by attempting to affect a Texan drawl.
It's not working. Her accent is SO phony and affected, I can't believe she's still getting cheers... It makes me cringe listening, because her flattened vowels from Wellesley are having a tryst with something from the Bronx as she's trying to drawl and laconicize (and I don't think that's a word yet- I'm contacting the USPTO and you all can expect to get the consent and royalty forms in a week or so).
I'm wondering how much cross-party voting will help her today... Someone asked, "How can any Republican even think of voting for her? All of your hands are going to instinctively move away from her name, like Peter Weller in Dr. Strangelove- he just couldn't help but give a Nazi salute!" I'm also wondering if there will be an outcry about this gaming of the system, though that would be a bit hypocritical- many Democrats in other states did the same during the Republican primaries. It's legal, so I think the thing to do about it would be to change the primary rules. I imagine many in the Democratic party will want to do that anyway, as anyone with some foresight and imagination will see that should Hillary win in Texas, Ohio, and a few other states or manages by hook, crook (double entendre, eh? --Ed.), or sheer Clintonian willpower to get MI or FL seated, the Denver Convention is going to be an awful, awful spectacle.
I'll be making popcorn.
