Ahh...dead things to lighten my mood

I went to my first-ever Alamo Drafthouse "Quote along" last night--The Army of Darkness directed by Sam Raimi and starring the eternally under-rated Bruce Campbell. My wife commented that I sounded a lot happier afterwards. I'm sure the two pints of Shiner helped, too, but the fun of seeing a cult classic movie at the Alamo was balm for my soul. I went with a good friend I've met through the bike ranch, and whom I haven't been able to spend much time with since I've been doing so much Tai Chi training lately.

Alamo Drafthouse is such a great place! Everyone got a cheesy little plastic "Boom Stick" (more of a "fling stick" since the rubber suction-cup darts only shot out about a foot), which we were encouraged to shoot of at key moments in the movie when they put a countdown on the screen. And they subtitled the best quotes (or most favorite of the Alamo staff) so we could say them with the on-screen characters. There was a pyrotechnic at one point, and a red confetti cannon shot off when a geyser of blood shot out of the "Pit of Death". And we all howled at the over-sized moon that was an inside joke going back to a really really bad special effect moon in the first Evil Dead movie. I saved my "boom stick"--maybe I'll have a chance for Bruce Campbell or Sam Raimi to sign it someday.
