I just got roped in to doing a detoxifying cleansing diet.
Yeah... I don't know about all this.
It's not as bad as I thought it was going to be - Silver did a raw diet a couple months ago that was much more strict, but this one is actually pretty liveable. A friend sent me a sample shopping list and some things that he liked to eat when he did it last:
Aside from getting psyched up for your cleanse over the next few days, it's a good idea to get together a shopping list of foodstuffs you plan on buying. Here is a shortlist to start off with of things to buy that will get you off on the right foot.
boneless skinless chicken boobies (Make sure you get the ones w/out hormones, etc)
salmon
-other fish, like halibut or catfish, is good too. See what your grocer's meat dept. has on sale
bananas
apples
oranges
mixed bag salads (I'm fond of the Spring Mix kind)
Hearts of romaine
Tomatos
celery
natural peanut butter (The kind that's just ground peanuts, no sugar added)
nuts (hee hee, I wrote "nuts")
-Trader Joe's is good for nuts, you can get bags of almonds or mixed nuts and they're not too pricey
balsamic vinegar
extra virgin olive oil
kosher salt
BROWN RICE
lemons
garlic
onions / shallots
mixed frozen veggies
edamame (aka soybean pods)
orange or apple juice
sparkling water (Like Pellegrino)
unsweetened soy milk
This is a good list of food that I like, but by no means are these the only things you're limited to eat. But this list sets you up for several of my average cleanse days, wherein I'd start the day off with a breakfast of a banana or apple and a handful of nuts and a cup of decaf green tea, have a lunch of a Spring mix salad with some tomatoes, onions and leftover chicken breast from the night before tossed with some balsamic vinegar and olive oil and some edamame, then end the day with a dinner of a grilled or broiled salmon filet, some brown rice and some mixed veggies with some fruit juice or Pellegrino. In the first few days, you might feel a pull to have dessert, if that is part of your normal routine. After about the first week, I wanted something sweet, so I took to occasionally cutting up a banana and mixing it with a little natural peanut butter in a bowl. And of course I'd eat that while watching Paula Dean make cheesecake on the Food Network.
See, I suppose I can do this... I like most of the food on his list...
Oh, ferfuckssake... I've never stuck to a diet in my life.
Did I mention that this is for four weeks? Four weeks?
Wish me luck, and if any of you have done this before and may have any words of wisdom, please speak them.
Please.
