Happy Mardi Gras!

A non-angst post for once!

Yes, today is the official opening day of Carnival and the Mardi Gras season in New Orleans! Believe it or not, there are a couple of traditional Balls going on toinght to open the season (nope - I'm not attending any this year). But, in the true spirit of the season, I present to you:

Happy Mardi Gras!

Happy Mardi Gras to you crash - and I hope the house finally gets the rebuilding work it needs. And that your city recovers, too.

Oh thanks El! Actually, this has been a decent week, rebuilding-wise. Kitchen cabinets are in (minus the pulls that are on order) and the garage door and opener has been replaced. I'm still waiting on the final painting, some plumbing, the floors, etc., but at least it's something. Here's hoping I get in by March!

Resiliency knows no bounds! I love the beads, but the cake is slightly creepy! What IS that?

Happy Mardi Gras to you too. It will certainly be memorable in its own way for the very fact that it is happening at all!

What's the latest on the MIA trailer and FEMA fiasco?

Beach - that's a King Cake! Surely you've heard of King Cake?!?!? No? Here's a link to some helpful info: King Cake. Good Stuff!

Now, the trailer talk brings on the angst. I'm actually 'squatting', as muchtvs will say, in my sister's FEMA trailer. Still waiting for the sewerage hook-up to be completed. In fact, we had a little excitement today. The FEMA guy showed up (we were expecting him on Tuesday) . . . for my sister's signature so that they could order the missing parts! We were expecting the thing to be fixed. Now, after the trailer was delivered over 4 weeks ago, we wait some more for them to come back and actually finish the job.

Oh well, guess I'll just keep squatting till they get it done.

Meanwhile I saw at least 6 trailers being delivered in my neighborhood today. Sadly, none for me yet. But at least I have my sister's for now.

I am ashamed. I was not King Cake savvy and my education is sadly, woefully lacking! Thankfully, you have enlightened me and I can once again lift my head. Phew! I appreciate the link. I can't explain or excuse my ignorance. You will forgive me though, right?

Trailer talk sounds like an interesting Southern morning talk show. Sorry. My vivid and equally pathetic imigination is out to play. I'm very proud! I won't comment too much on "squatting" since I always think public restrooms before the legal term for occupying land! Nasty me! I would say sewer is significant. Some things are NOT negotiable. Missing parts? I'm not sure I even want to go there! It sounds like trailer delivery is the happening thing. Here's hoping it finally happens! Baby steps at a snail's pace. At least you have your sister's. Still. GRRRRRRRRRRRRR!

Send out a signal when the big day arrives!

Mardi Gras mambo mambo mambo....
Down in New Or-leens!

I'm not surprised that New Orleans is going ahead with the festivities! Down but never out!

I usually run as fast as I can AWAY from Mardi Gras!

Thanks for the king cake, crash!!

Aw, MArdi Gras Mambo! Good one - good times!

Actually, I usually catch the parades out in the burbs by me in Metairie - much more tame and friendly. Regardless of which parades I go to, I definitely won't be missing them this year. You should come down and enjoy - you're close enough!

Awww, Crash...that must be so painful...and I hope hopeful (to be completely repetitive) all at the same time.

Viva la N'Awlins (only written because I know it annoys you so).

What's that? I couldn't hear over the fingernails scratching the chalkboard....N'Awlins you say?

Seriously, Mardi Gras is on this year. Limited number of parades and fewer parade routes, but parding nontheless. I'm looking forward to it. We need a little celebration down here!

Now, that's what we call chank-a-chank music. It's the music of Southwest Louisiana (aka Cajun Country). My mom grew up on that music, I have cousins that play that music, etc. I love chank-a-chank.

Rhotonda wants to go to a Mardi Gras parade...I'm just sayin'. Bring that FEMA Voodoo doll down with you!

I'm packing Rhotonda's little itty bitty voodoo suitcase as we speak.
