Idiosyncrasies of cats

I don't think I've ever met anyone with a cat that didn't have quirks. I know for sure I don't own one. Like now, for instance, I'm watching my darling little grey fuzzball jump up onto our coffee table and dip his paw in a nearly-empty water glass and lick the water off. Sometimes he'll, I don't know, get too much or something and then he'll shake his paw, sending droplets spraying in all directions (like french silk pie filling, haha). He can't be parched, he has two bowls filled with water in different areas of the apartment, but he'd much rather drink from our glasses or lick the bathtub after someone takes a shower (yuck).

I hear stories like this from many cat owners. Or I'll be visiting and see the cat do something crazy, and ask "Why are they doing that?" They'll shrug and say "he just does it. I don't know why."

My cat likes to wake up about 30 minutes before my 5:30am alarm. I can usually ignore him for another 15, but at that point he has exhausted all of his other play possibilities and decides to go for the miniblinds. Every single window in our apartment has these blinds, and by now most of them are pulled all the way up to keep them out of his reach. He paws at them constantly to try and see through. There is only one set in our bedroom that I keep closed because otherwise our room would turn into a fishbowl (there are windows on 3 of the 4 sides), and those are the ones he attacks. Clack, clack, shudder. I usually reach blindly for the compressed air on my bedside table and spray it in his general direction, and he leaps down and runs out of the room. Ten seconds later, he's back for more. I think he thinks it's some kind of game.

Then three hours later, he crashes, curling up on my bed or the futon and heaving a big contented sigh. Little bastard.
