I'm really happy with my work schedule. Yes, I'm back to working weekends, but it's really great to just work a few 8 hour shifts a week and then have a bunch of days off. When I was working 4 hours a day all week I felt like I couldn't get anything done. I'm not even talking about homework, I mean grocery shopping, bill paying, etc.
Having a kitten also makes it hard to get stuff done. I'm usually the first one home, and so as I walk in the door I can see him stumble into the kitchen all bleary-eyed from sleeping. If I scoop him up fast enough and plop down on the couch, he'll curl right back up and go to sleep. Any momentum I may have had when I walked in the door is now out the window.
The above sections were things I wrote about a month ago, but they still pertain.
We had a really nice Christmas this year. My mom let us bring Pippin to stay overnight, which is a big deal if you know anything about my mom. He was such a little gentleman too, and didn't try to do anything crazy to the tree or knock things off the counters like I expected. We didn't even shut him in our room for the night because he was being so good, and the next morning we found him happily sandwiched between Leigh and I (we all slept on the downstairs futon Xmas eve).
What he loved most were the stairs. Running up and down the stairs. Over and over again. Even my mom accidentally kicking him because she couldn't see in the dark didn't deter this activity. I think it tired him out and kept him from being more naughty. My dad calls him "Crazy cat".
It was even better the next morning, when we gave him a jingly jester collar as a present. The noise ensured that we knew where he was at all times. He looked completely ridiculous but didn't really mind the collar at all, since we'd gotten him used to wearing his baby collar after we first got him home.
As usual, I saved wrapping presents to the last minute. I was happy there weren't many gifts this year. I end up feeling guilty for not giving more when I get such nice things. My mom gave me a new coffeemaker with a metal carafe, which was great. My other coffeemaker no longer has a carafe since I broke it while doing dishes. I've been putting an extra-large mug underneath to catch the coffee.
I'll have to do a year summed up post soon.
