Captain's Log. Days 1 and 2
Day 1.
Well shockingly enough getting here went off without a hitch. From the airport, to the tube, to the hotel. I did however walk up and down the Queensway 3 times looking for my hotel, which i guess was a little bit of a problem. Oh well. My hotel is in a great location, on a street with a ton of cheap restaurants, and internet cafes, hence this post. Not to mention it is right near the intersection of "St. Petersburg Pl. and Moscow Rd." no shit. Anyhoo
So after i got settled, i decided not to waste the weekend day, so i got straight back on the tube to go to Camden, the part of town i missed last time i was here, and the part of the trip i was most looking forward too. So, on the way I had to take a bus to Camden town. I definately rode on the second level and listened to Morrissey sing about Double decker busses in "There is a Light". This was a great moment in this little Anglophile's life and it put a smile on my face for sure.
CAMDEN. Oh my god. I can't really do this place justice trying to describe it. It BLEW MY MIND. It is like the world's largest punk rock street market. It was like a whole town made just for me. Need a patch that says "Russian Roulette"? Oh right over there, next to the awesome wintage dresses and Trainspotting hoodies. Need a purse with Andy Warhol's "Mao" on it, just over in that shop there with the rinestone "Goldfrapp" t-shirts and handmade soaps. It was unreal, and cheap. It was perfect. It was a world. Remember the Simpson's episode where Homer dreams about that chocolate land? And he skips around with that creepy smile on his face? Yeah that was me in Camden.
Day 2.
Well i woke up this morning still high as a kite from the codene i took for my raging back pain last night. I went to the internet cafe for coffee and then set off on my "Day of the Circle Line"
First stop was "BARBICAN" for the Museaum of London. Which was awesome. Ton's of artifacts from the entire history of the city. I definately sat in a really cool, yet creepy dark red room for a 20 min. media presentation on the black plauge. which ruled. not the plaugue, the, well you know. I lost one of my gloves here though. That did not rule.
Next, back on the Circle line to "TEMPLE" for the Hermitage rooms at the Sommerset house museaum. A mini-version of the famous Russian museaum set up by Catherine the Great. Well i get there, and the rooms are closed because they are adding an exhibit. However, the gift shop was not. So at least i got a bunch of Catherine-era russia souviners.
And then it was off to "HIGH ST. KENISINGTON" to TopShop. I was dissappointed to learn, once i got there that this was not the HUGE TopShop, so i bought a shirt and then deviated to the Central Line to "OXFORD CIRCUS". This is where i lose my mind. I forgot how overwhelming the big TopShop is, and lets just say my wallet is gonna be cooling down for a few days.
Then it was back home to "BAYSWATER". Napped. Now, I'm here. Tonite i will read, and enjoy the fact that even the tv voiceover announcer people here are sarcastic.
Tomorrow, i will go to Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens, and just generally bum around my hood since i need to not shop for a few days. Then at nite go to CANDYBAR, a big lez bar with an indie/electro nite. awesome. or shall i say "cheers".
