I hate it when a plan goes straight to hell...

So... today, I was supposed to be grilling out today. It's a gorgeous day for it, too. The plan was, I invited several people from Kempo, along with Shannon and Mindy over for burgers, guac, and a movie. Sounds like fun, yeah? I sure thought so...

So, yesterday I went to the store and got the stuff I needed. The only hiccup I noticed was that the avacados for the guac weren't really ripe... they were alot firmer than I would like, but I figured I could deal with it. I have a food processor, afterall. So, I got all the stuff home, put it away, and stayed up until about 5:00am playing Knights of the Old Republic 2... what can I say, I'm in a star wars kinda mood ;)

Anyway, I woke up this morning to call after my guests, and make sure everyone's still coming. I can't get ahold of Shannon, Barbarah has her phone turned off, but Heather is still a go. She asks if she can bring a couple friends, which I had no trouble with. So, I start working on dinner. I'm making the guac, and realize very early on that the avacado's were so far from ripe that I could work with them. I had to pry the pits out, one by one, then hand peel each one. While I was working on that, I got a call from Heather. Her 2 friends canceled on her, and she can't get over here by herself. When I said that I hadn't heard from Shannon or Barb, she canceled outright.

So, there I was, guac half made, with no guests. Typical. I figured I should go ahead and finish the guac, as I hate to let something like that go to waste. About a 1/2 hour later I FINALLY finished peeling the damn things. Then things went *wrong* I tried using my stick blender on the avacado bits to blend them up. It couldn't dent them, instead it decided to just toss stuff around my kitchen. Ok... so, to the food processor. The processor did a great job of dicing the avacado up into little bits, about the size of short grain rice.

This is where I remind everyone that Guac is supposed to be creamy.... Yeah...

So, I took the resulting minced avacado out and just sampled a bit of it, to see if it was salvagable. It was so bitter I had to spit it out. I wound up just tossing the whole bowl, salvaging the parts that hadn't been incorporated in yet, and cleaning up my kitchen. I'm going to go to the farmers market tomorrow and try to find some fresh avacados and try again tomorrow after Kempo.

In the meantime, I'm going to grill some god damn burgers... with or without company, I'm not going to let the second back of burger goods go to waste like I did with the stuff that I bought for labor day.

That's how my day is going. I hope the rest of you are having better luck than I am.
