Wow, what a long weekend... 955 miles total driving distance since 7:30am on Saturday... fun fun fun!
I started out with a drive to Birmingham to spend the day with Andy and MSA, to help shop and plan for their uber awesome halloween party. While I was there, we met up with Robin, John, and the immortal Glas for Sushi! I do miss good sushi, let me tell you ;) Anyway, Andy, MSG and I caught a rather rediculous, if not wholely entertaining import flick, 'The Protector'. It has Thai Martial Arts, it has elephants, it has bike and skater punk ninjas, and it has 3 of the biggest 'roid junkies you will ever see in your life. If you like cheesy import martial arts movies, check this one out, it was worth the watch!
Sunday, after watching Doug show off his mad martial arts skills at a public demonstration, I grabed a quick lunch with Andy and MSG before leaving town. I headed on up to Tullahoma, where I met my mother and grandmother for dinner. Then we went home, and I entertained my grandmother immensely by making my mother (and her crackpot over the top 'the arabs are going to take over the world unless we kill them all' conspiracy theories) look like a complete idiot. Mom wasn't too happy about that, but I was amused, and GM was amused, so 2 out of 3 aint all that bad ;)
This morning I took care of my bank business, then got my diploma, closed my first tenn banking account, and swung by Mars for a visit. It was really good to see all my old friends, but I was really surprised by the number of new faces at Mars. I mean, wow... I was talking to the book keeper, and she said that there were now 70 people working in that building, only 2 of whom were not working for Mars. I got to see Tony, and Marc, and Mark, and Powell, and Jon, Abby, Abby, Becky, and everyone in the photo studio (all of whom demanded back rubs from me...?). The photo studio was my downfall though... I went in there looking to say hello to some old friends, I came out of there with another mouth to feed!
Emily (evil woman that she is) finally roped me into taking that kitten she's been trying to get adopted for the past 4 months. She had her boyfriend pack up the kitty, some food, and supplies for me, and bring the cat over to the office before I could get away. I've never driven a long distance with a cat in the car before, so I was kinda wiered out by it... I wasn't sure how the cat was gonna handle it, if she would need to use a litter box, eat, drink, or any of that... so I was kinda nervous.
I left Mars about 4:00pm today, cat in hand, made a quick stop at the store for litter and some catnip, then hit the road. The cat looked kinda depressed, all huddled up and scared in the back of the carrier, so I left her there for awhile. At the first rest stop, just inside Alabama, I managed to coax the fuzzball out of her carrier. Then the fun started....
So, apparently this cat likes cars. When she realized it was safe to come out, she bounced all around the car for 30 minutes or so, looking for the perfect place to stay. She was good though, she stayed out of the driver's side footwell (i.e. where my feet and the pedals were). I let her roam around, and she had fun with it. After about a 1/2 hour of this, she managed to find the most comfortable spot in the entire car... nesseled on, draped over, sprawled accross, or huddled up on my left shoulder. Have any of you ever tried to drive with a 5 month old kitten curled up on your shoulder? Occasionally she'ld start grooming herself, then mistake my ear, cheekes, or neck as part of herself, and get to work on that too... while I'm driving down the interstate at 75mph... it's fun, let me tell you ;)
About a hour after having this kitten perched on my shoulders, I think, hey, maybe she's just on my shoulder's because the front seat is full of her carrier, and she can't spread out on it. yeah, that must be it! So, at the next rest stop, I cleaned out the front seat, spread out a tee shirt for her to sprawl over, and even dug out some food for her. All the while, she was giving me this 'what the fuck do you think your doing? I'm not going anywhere...' So, we drove the entire way... 400+ miles, with kitty playing navigator as I cruised on back into town.
Now that I have this little hairball, I have to think of a name for her. I was going to call her Fluffy, but that name is taken...
So, back to the drawing board. I'm toying around with a few options, here's what I've got so far:
1. Verra
2. Kiera
3. Agatha
4. Fullfy McFuzzykins, professional Luv Machine
5. Cat
What do you guys think?
I'll get pics up later, maybe that will help pick a name. She's (roughly) a tabby, only she has brown mixed in with the grey and white stripes.
Anyway, I'm out... busy day tomorrow!
ciao!
