Title: Mabudachi Talks
"Brains over body.” Yamashita was sprawled on the floor, nursing a beer bottle. “Geeks get the chicks too.” He added as an after thought.
Akanishi didn’t say anything. His eyes were fixed on the ceiling, his feet dangled off the couch, his toes inches away from Yamashita’s nose.
“…really?” Akanishi looked down on him.
Yamashita smiled at him, “Ignorance is an occasional bliss.”
“But I hate economics.” Akanishi frowned. “I failed biology in middle school.”
“What do you like?”
Akanishi blinked, “Eminem.”
“Figures.” Said Yamashita after a stretched silence.
Two months later Akanishi stepped inside a language school in LA.
Title: Hot Summer Nights
Akanishi woke up when the cool fever fell from his forehead, landed on a water bottle - which tumbled down and hit his nose, hard.
He sat up straight and wiped the saliva off his chin, eyes in daze.
He blinked and looked around the deserted dressing room. He blinked again when he noticed the neon colored band-aids on his arms. He grimaced.
He grabbed his phone and tried to type coherently.
“easy on d news kid. be kind. ^_^ i’l c u after ur rehearsal. Tnx 4 d kol fver & bandaids, btw.”
And he went back to sleep.
Title: The Sun Sets and Rises
Akanishi flashed the cashier a smile after handing her his card, “…nice people. Nice, sober people.”
“Not buying it.”
He balanced the grocery bags on his arms and the phone tucked between his shoulder and ear. “I’m serious.”
He heard a grunt, “Ah shit.”
“What’s wrong?” He was careful not to bump with anyone as he walked along the crowded sidewalk.
“Sunlight. Stupid curtains.”
He smiled, “Oh it’s morning already?”
“Hn.”
“Good morning, Kazuya.”
“Don’t ‘good morning’ me, Akanishi.”
Akanishi sat on the bench by the bus stop, “I’m sorry.”
“Just. Go home before sunset tonight.”
Akanishi smiled, "Will do."
Title: Team Effort
Tanaka bowed at the Unit Manager of Arashi as he passed by them in the corridor. “Good morning, Hissashi-san.” The older man just gave him a pointed look and walked away.
Ueda sighed. “Maru, stop beat boxing! My head is aching!”
“But I have to distract the people from… their… noise.” Nakamaru hissed.
“Dammit. I died!” Taguchi cried.
Ueda snatched his DS and was about to throw it when the door opened.
“Fuck. It wasn’t locked?” Akanishi asked wide-eyed, Kamenashi’s head appeared over his shoulder, hair rumpled.
"Yes. Oh the mental images." Ueda groaned as they entered their dressing room.
Title: 2021
Expect Nakamaru to pick a family restaurant they frequent when they were still Juniors. Akanishi choked out of embarrassment when Taguchi retold an incident that includes a drunk Akanishi, a patient Taguchi, this restaurant and an indecent proposal.
The glint of amusement in Kamenashi’s eyes, the heartily laugh of Taguchi, the rolling of the eyes of Ueda and the expression of utter disgust on Nakamaru’s face made Akanishi felt he was younger and faceless once again.
“Sorry. Had to help my daughter. Homework.” Tanaka apologized as he sat down. “What did I miss?”
“Nothing much.” Akanishi handed him a beer.
Title: Midnight Rendezvous
Akanishi was already on his second serving when Kamenashi arrived.
Akanishi nodded at him as he sat down three stools away and orders himself a tea and a bowl of miso ramen.
Another hour stretched and when Akanishi finally finished his last sake, Kamenashi paid their meals and they stepped out of the stall.
They stood at the corner wall, meters away from the ramen stall, and finished three sticks each, Dunhill for Kamenashi, Salem for Akanishi, before they parted ways.
“I’ll see you next week.” Akanishi muttered, as he lowered his baseball cap.
Kamenashi smiled as he walked away.
Title: Amicable Differences
“Too expensive.” Jin said.
“No, it’s not. It’s reasonable!” Kame glared.
“That’s because you’re a shopaholic princess brat.” Jin glared back.
“We can just use my old one back at home.” Nakamaru suggested.
“No, I like this. I can paint it. With crosses and butterflies.” Ueda said.
“Paint? HELL NO. I’ll spray paint it!” Koki corrected him.
“It’s just an aircon! Why do we have to paint it?!” Jin pulled his hair.
“I DIED!” Junno shouted, DS at hand.
“SHUT UP. You’re the one who broke the aircon in our dressing room!” KA-TUN shouted, simultaneously.
Junno just smiled at them.
Title: 16 Hours Away
It has been 4 weeks and 3 days and he’s still counting.
Akanishi’s steps are hurried and precise. He can’t wait to get inside his room.
Today’s class was perfect. He believes he finally nailed that dratted has, have and had. He’s even getting used to the weather already. Life’s good. He stops himself from skipping.
He closes the door and grabs his phone. 14 voicemails. He smiles.
“It's Kame. Just reminding you that it’s Junno’s birthday. Greet him. Properly. I’ll talk to you later. Bye.”
19 weeks and 4 days to go and yes, he can finally stop counting.
