Social Engineering, for those or you who dont know what this is, is when you basically hack humans. You trick them into beleiving your someone you're not, inorder to gain access to different things like rooms and computers.
I thought I'd give it a shot. I found a shirt on the internet that said "Network Security Student Staff" The shirt was sold by a Social engineering site and it's mainly so that college students can use it to gain access to campas servers and take restrictions off of their accounts but i thought i'd give it a try at my highschool.
So i'm wearing my shirt and it's 6:00 pm and the janetor is mopping. I walk up to him ask to unlock the server room because i'm doing a project for my Network Security and A+ certification class. He has no clue what those are so i go on to explain computer security and he makes the remark "ohh so your like norton" i had to nearly staple my mouth shut as to keep from laughing at him. and i continued to explain the difference between a person and a computer app. Eventually he let me in, and to my surprise he actually left me alone in the schools main server room. i was giddy beyond belief. so i sat down at one of the two monitors and moved to mouse as to remove the "screen saver" i was then prompted to sign in. So i tried Admin; Admin and to my surprise that also worked. I was then face to face with all of the important files in the school. Grades, Teacher accounts, student accounts, even the lunch shedule could be changed from their. I was smart and didnt touch anything and proceded to leave and i told the janitor that i was done and he could then lock the room.
It was all very exciting and i did this all on wednesday for those of you wondering.
