I often wish that I were in another part of the world. Well, right now I really wish that I was living in Cannes, France. Of course, the requisite language proficiency is part of the wish, but hey, it's my wish!
Part of why is because I was reading up on Wong Kar Wai's latest film, "My Blueberry Nights", which is being shown at Cannes right now when I saw the words "A Weinstein Company release."
My instinctive response was, "NOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!! Those bastards!"
In case anyone is wondering, the Weinsteins are famous for editing and cutting foreign films and really delaying their US release, so those of us who watch Miramax distributed films have to suffer through horrible shells of what used to be films (or else we import them from their native countries where Miramax hopefully haven't extended their tendrils to yet). My hope is that because "My Blueberry Nights" is an english language film (and an American film, if an "indie" one) they won't be as horrible as usual. Of course, the fact that the only trailer available on the internet is in French isn't the best of signs.
